Catawba Propsectors was established and incorporated early in 2015 due to the lack of access to information and data pertaining to the hobby of prospecting for gold and other precious gems.
Gold and precious gems are certainly plentiful in the Carolinas and in most cases are perfectly legal to claim.
Gold was first discovered in Stanley County, NC in 1797 which sparked a huge "Gold Rush." It is estimated that 97% of the gold in NC is still in the ground along with some precious gems that are exclusive to the Carolinas. This is why we found it necessary to form a group of organized people to help educate like minded prospectors and interested people about the fading knowledge that the "Old Timers" have about prospecting in the Carolinas.
